A founding member and past president of Artbeat Gallery, an art coop with 80 member artists, was presented the Innovation in the Arts  award by the Silicon Valley Arts Council in 1993. Luke previously served on the San Jose Art League Board of Directors, as Program Chairman for the Los Gatos Art Association and newletter editor for the East Valley Artists.

Luke’s paintings have received numerous awards and other  recognition. .  He is an exhibiting member of Salon, North Valley Art League and the Society of Western Artists.  His work has been exhibited at Redding Civic Center, Redding Medical Center,  Redding Airport, North Valley Art League and other local venues. His work has appeared in juried shows at the San Jose Museum, the Triton Museum and the SWA annual show at Marin Civic Center and in numerous other venues.

Luke leads watercolor painting workshops at Mt. Lassen Art Center. He has attended numerous painting workshops at Asilomar, Ruidoso, and Mendocino and St. Mary’s Art Centers as well as sixty semester units of college training.

Luke is an avid out door painter who coordinates the Shasta Painters, Estero Bay Painters and Death Valley Painters (Death Valley.)  He actively paints out with Salon, the Plein Air Painters of the North State and other groups.

Luke retreated to his place at Big Springs on Hat Creek near Old Station for twenty-five years.  Retiring with 32 years of service as an educator in 2000, he moved to Viola where he resides with his wife Birgit at the Mt. Lassen Art Center.  He has five grown children and two grandchildren. He enjoys a relationship with his loving extended family from Shasta, Siskiyou and Butte Counties.

His community work includes Shasta County Grand Jury,  adult literacy, helping with first grade readers at Black Butte School,  art education outreachl and Shingletown Community Activites.  The Mt. Lassen Art Center  holds the third annual Mt. Lassen Art Show annually on the weekend after July 4th
